Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun Sabil
Cairo, Egypt
Located on the northern corner of the facade of the Madrasa of Qala'un, this little fountain, restored in 1997, is the earliest example of an architectural form given to the free distribution of water in Cairo. The noteworthy feature is the band of faience mosaic at the base of the little cupola. This type of tile decoration, usually associated with Persia, is rare in Cairo but not unique for this period.
