Koç House
Bolu, Türkiye
A forested landscape in the Western Black Sea region is the setting for this weekend house. The building was positioned carefully, to avoid disturbing existing trees and preserve the natural slope of the site. Local timber carcass construction techniques were reinterpreted utilising engineered wood, for maximum earthquake resistance, and cedar was used extensively, from the interior finishes to the exterior walls and the shingles on the roof. The accommodation - six rooms and six and a half bathrooms - is arranged around two axes that intersect at right angles. A separate 260 m2 building contains the servants' quarters.
