Akdurak House
Urla, Türkiye
This house has grown with its owner (the architect who designed it). First conceived for a bachelor, it has become a home for an expanding family: a couple, two children - and their dogs. When the space threatened to get crowded, new solutions were created to accommodate new needs without disrupting the original concept. The structure combines concrete supports and solid stone walls, with 70 per cent of the stone being either extracted during the excavation of the foundations, or recycled from abandoned buildings. The roof tiles were similarly collected from ruined houses in nearby Urla.
