Lido Park
Johor Baharu, Malaysia
Lido Park is a remodelling of an existing state park undertaken by a developer in exchange for a lease on a 1'600-acre waterfront site. The idea was to provide a 'people's park' with a range of recreational facilities: amphitheatre, celebration/parade grounds, children's wading pool, bird-singing competition grounds, horticultural centre and orchid garden, formal garden and food park. Concrete construction is combined with an extensive use of expressed steel structures to achieve a 'lightness' in the architectural forms. Finishes are simple: coloured cement and exposed aggregate on concrete for floors, painted concrete plaster with stone accents for the walls.
