Katakam House
Bangalore, India
The design of this simple retreat is based on a square plan, where each of the rooms looks onto a court or open space. Sliding doors and windows allow each area to open up to an adjacent space, so there is a sense of transparency throughout. 'The direction of the moonrise and its path' contribute to 'a sense of quietude and a play of light and shade'. The foundations are made of granite blocks bonded with cement mortar, whereas the walls are of brick and mud mortar, finished with plaster to protect against heavy rainfall.
