Chocolate Factory
Damascus, Syria
This chocolate factory is intended to give industry 'an aesthetic lure and pictorial appeal'. It has three parts: production hall; administrative offices and gate building; and courtyard with a garden pavilion for receptions and leisure use. The facades incorporate a varied palette of materials including greenish reflective glass, light brown local stone and grey ceramic and metallic veneering. The layered external skin of the production hall replicates 'the process of opening a chocolate box and peeling off a chocolate foil'. The administrative building interior is painted chocolate brown and golden, literally denoting the brandname 'Choco d'Or'.
