Gümüslük Academy
Muğla, Türkiye
Gümüslük Academy is a non-profit organisation that describes itself as a 'thought farm where arts, philosophy and the sciences are conjoined with nature'. It provides accommodation and workspaces for resident artists and scholars as well as visitor facilities such as a restaurant and amphitheatre. Its layout and use of materials refer to the model of the Anatolian hilltop village, in determined contrast to the whitewashed, blocky summerhouses that are prevalent in this tourist area. Marine plywood is used for the cladding of the individual housing units, while common areas such as the studios are built of more durable concrete.
