Bay View Academy
Karachi, Pakistan
Privately financed, the academy serves children from nursery to secondary. The L-shaped property, composed of two buildings, occupies a 6,000 square yard. The site was designed to respond to the hot climate with bright and airy spaces that are simultaneously shaded. Deep single loaded courtyard corridors were developed for this purpose, as well as wind shafts and paths. Innovative floor patterns in the form of chessboards and grids are used by children for play. Reinforced concrete and an external cladding of hand chiselled "Gizri" stone were selected as the prime building materials.
