Rose of Suez Canal
Fayed, Egypt
A private residence located on a 1,800 metre square site, in Fayed town on the western bank of the Suez Canal. Local craftsmen were hired to build the structure using natural materials - fired clay bricks and stones - and traditional methods. The ground floor comprises the main entrance, a central atrium, reception, and dining hall, all of which are surrounded by an open court. Beyond the reception is the northern terrace and swimming pool. Brick was selected instead of reinforced concrete, for its reliability and cooling effect.
