Stari Illiyas Mosque
Ilijas, Bosnia and Herzegovina
A mosque constructed to replace the previous 300-year old structure destroyed during the war in early 90s. Measuring 14 square metres, it was designed with few ornaments and inexpensive materials. Inside the building are a metal prayer niche and the women's private area. Metal was used to evoke the destroyed Ilijas ironworks that previously employed many of the congregation members. Other building materials consist of reinforced concrete, wood, plastic draining pipes, inox steel, and dark blue glass.
