Municipal Building of al-Sharafiah
Jiddah, Saudi Arabia
The conversion of six, small, identical villas situated in a residential area of Jeddah into offices. The two-storey buildings, octogonal in plan, are symmetrically organized on a rectangular site. A system of paved walkways and gardens determines the circulation between the units. An octogonal pavilion on the northern side of the site, overlooking the fountain and garden, now functions as a reception area. The openings, previously aluminium frames, have been furnished with traditional blue painted wooden mashrabiyyas and screens. Construction is reinforced concrete foundations and frame structure, reinforced concrete slab floors and roof, with ceramic and marble tiles as floor finish.
