Mosque at National Monument
Savar, Bangladesh
The mosque is located on a slightly undulating site which forms part of the complex of the National Monument for Unknown Martyrs. The actual design has been kept simple and in sympathy with the other elements of the complex. The main prayer hall, square in plan, is surrounded by verandahs on all four sides, each with brick vaults for climatic and traditional reasons. Clerestorey windows provide the prayer hall with additional natural light at an upper, high level.
