Qahtan Awni was an Iraqi architect active from 1951 until his death in 1972. Educated at the University of California, Berkeley, Awni returned to Baghdad to found a firm that took on numerous projects during its twenty years of operation. In addition to residential architecture, including apartment complexes and private homes, the firm also designed the main campus of al-Mustansiriyya University and the building for Baghdad's Electricity Board.
