Safiullah Baig holds postgraduate degrees in Sociology and Development Studies from the University
of Karachi, Pakistan, and the University of East Anglia, UK. He has been working with different AKDN agencies since 1996. His career in social development began with the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme and later moved to the Aga Khan Education Service-Pakistan, where he worked with local communities, particularly in non-Ismaili areas of Northern Pakistan. Before joining the Aga Khan Cultural Service-Pakistan (AKCS-P), he assisted Afghan refugees in the North West Frontier Province and Balochistan. He has conducted a number of field research projects, such as "Girls' Access
to Post-Primary Education" and "The Role of Non-Formal Education in Closed Social System Societies of
the Northern Areas".
