François Déroche is a member of the Institute (Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres) and professor at the Collège de France where he has held the chair of History of the Koran, Text and transmission since 2015. He is a specialist in Arabic manuscripts, with a particular interest in the written transmission of the Quranic text. A former student of the École Normale Supérieure in rue d'Ulm, he received training in Semitic languages ​​​​before joining the National Library where he was responsible for the catalog of manuscripts of the Koran. Scientific member of the French Institute of Anatolian Studies (1983-1986), he worked on the collections of manuscripts preserved in Istanbul, notably at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts. In 1990, he was elected to the École Pratique des Hautes Études to direct studies in the history and codicology of the Arabic manuscript book.
