Collapse of buildings
I am carrying out academic research work on the effect of substandard materials and improper construction methods on the stability of buildings. Could you please assist me with materials?

Collapse of buildings
I would look at the case study of the Istanbul earthquake of 1999 for substandard materials and structural failure due to insufficient reinforcement of concrete. There was, specifically, the case of this one builder of sea-side apartment buildings, who took his sand from the beach... eating into the concrete and the iron reinforcements and to literally crumble during the earthquake. The buildings that fell due to poor construction or materials were obvious because they fell one here, one there... whereas elsewhere (in areas with poor soil, or with extreme impact) everything was shattered.

I also recommend the following book:
Levy, Matthys. 1992. Why buildings fall down: how structures fail. New York: W.W. Norton.
