Newly designed and built vernacular Architecture is always interesting if only to see whether or not the architect has truely applied both the principles and techniques of a specific traditional vernacular design, or if the architect has simply added a vernacular veneer pastiche as the envelope of the building.

In other words, one could say that there are two schools of thought, on the one hand, there is the school of thought which uses the principles and techniques of traditional vernacular design, and the other school of thought which sees buildings and spaces as stage sets to be decorated in whatever "style" is asked for.

And of course, there is the third school of thought of the architecturally confused who design without any regard to tradition, or to culture, or to the sense of theatre which is needed for public buildings.

A notable example, though not of either resort or educational classification, is the Taos Pueblo (Taos,New Mexico)[Courtesy of www.Greatbuildings.com] and the commercial buildings designed by Universal Design Consortium, which utilizes the modern version of adobe to construct urban structures [Courtesy of www.udcinc.com]. The first example highlights the usage of vernacular design, the second use of vernacular material in a non-traditional building. Hope these examples can help you.

AAfrin, Maybe the work of Guadi in Barcelona would be of interest? His work is a cross between Art Nouveau and Catalan vernacular architecture. :)

You should look at works of Laurie Baker,Trivandrum and works of Revathi Kamath Delhi both in India. Baker has done many resorts and educational institutes exploring vernacular architecture. Tourist village by Revathi kamath at Mandawa Rajasthan is also an example you can study.

Aafrin, Oops! I should have written Gaudi (not Guadi), I find I am sometimes dyslexic (I mix up letters within words)when using a keyboard.
