What would happen if kinetic architecture were to be fused with sustainable architecture, especially in tropical regions?

Hisham, How can kinetic architecture which implies the use of energy simply to sustain itself be regarded as sustainable?

What would happen if Kinetic Architecture fused with sustainability?
Mr. Hisham, great discussion topic. Kinetic Architecture is absolutely sustainable if it allows for greater utilization of a space or allows for passive environmental controls. With greater utilization less space is needed to meet the commercial requirements of the facility. Less space requires fewer materials for the initial construction.

Consider the case of a restaurant or cafe with outdoor seating and a retractable fabric roof. The space may achieve better utilization because it can be seated when conditions are optimum for outdoor dining, but there is flexibility to have a shade structure when needed, or to keep out dust, rain or insects. Allowing for more time that the space can be used. A kinetic architecture element can also be used to "catch" wind and increase natural ventilation.

Consider also the case of an open air stadium. If the stadium had a retractable roof it could be an optimum facility for outdoor sports but also used as a convention center, host concerts and other events where weather/ environmental controls are needed. It must be more sustainable to build and better utilize one facility than to build many for specific functions. Kinetic architecture in this manner can be a part of a sustainable solution.

What would happen if Kinetic Architecture fused with sustainability?
Thanks for the response especially Mr.
Justin Waldron, thats exactly what I'm thinking off.
Since anything everything that moves requires some form of energy, as for kinetic architecture the energy used, usually derive from nonrenewable sources such petrol, oil, coals etc.
If only these energy used for Kinetic Architecture in particular can be derived form reusable resources such as Solar, Wind, Water and Temperature all of which are available readily.
This in turn I think would make Kinetic Architecture more affordable, and by extension sustainable

Justin, I would agree with if the energy used to operate the mechanism which `transforms` (in the ways you describe) a building was sustainable.
