please someone can explain the difference between iwan and pishtaq in islamic architecture

I think the gateway that leads to the iwan is called pishtaq & liwan is the vaulted hall of a mosque, which is open on 1 side & closed on three sides.

yes iwan is one open three closed vaulted entrance part; pishtaq is highly or densely ornamented gateway

In passing, I have seen "iwan" written as "ivan" probably because w and v tend to be used interchangeably.

And the description of the iwan puts me in mind of the diwan / divan which is a space with seating on three sides.
