Neethu, "Open Air Theatres" have an ancient history in Continental Europe and probably much earlier elsewhere.

Dover Publications Inc, have a reprint [in English] of "The Ten Books of Architecture by Vitruvius" who was a Roman architect in the ancient world and he gives a good description of Greek (Open Air) Theatres, including how large empty vases were placed around the auditorium to enhance the accoustics of the theatre.
