Conservation vs Revitalization
Remah, I would say commercialism is both the solution and the problem.

When people move into an historic area simply to live off the tourists who are attracted by the thought of being able to see traditional architecture and culture then the such areas are turned into Disneyland tourist traps which have no merit or value.

The signs of "Disneyland" are when traditional buildings are destroyed to make way for car parks or hotels (for more tourists) and such destruction destroys the original fabric and makes a joke of historic conservation.
