Old city within a city
Old Cities offers the sense of nostalgic to the city today. This section would like to discuss and look into various old parts of the cities and their current conditions. Some are turned into the cultural district, some to a tourist revamp, some have been ignored and some just disappeared due to lack of understanding and preservation. Discuss and do give out examples.

Lucca might be built by the etrusans but the Roman Streets and the existing Roman Walls were strengthen in the XV and XVI century. That was also the time that the urban shape changed completely as some old buildings and towers were replaced by new stately mansions. In 1799, Napolean let his sister Elisa ruled that city and lived in the Palazzo Pubblico and named the square in front as Piazza Napoleone.

Hyderabad, Deccan: Collage turned chaotic
The monumental Charminar that was conceived as the city center for the walled city is actually a part of the street, and thus more connected to the people than other monuments. However, changing times have affected the type of traffic around this area and streets designed for pedestrians and scarce vehicles are now jammed with traffic and polluted with noise and smog, taking away the character of the Old City.

Interesting enough. Another old city in South-East Asia is the Johor's old empire along the johor coast. The current condition was neglected that this place was a horror at night. This scenario shuns people from staying in the inner city and house many social ills. Again, the pre-war structures are dilapidating and the old 60s streets cant accommodate for the vehicle circulations.. at times, some old cities are torn down to make way for new ones completely what a SHAME a lost in heritage.

Old city within a city....Hyderabad(ind),shahjahanabad,jaipur,jaisalmer...thankfully the list never ends and so their negligence that is shown towards them...today we in the name of modernisation are adding up piles of neighbourhoods to the existing cities...i would really like to see the day when the present day so called modern cities fall in the same line of the present day old cities( i wish that never happens) iam just trying to make it a point as to when we will love to live with all the old and new things around and hav more concern rather than respect for the dying heritage of culture.i would like to know how many of them and how many number of times) would like to visit a bazaar of an old city compared to a mall. i feel that old cities with deeper religious sentiments and cultures hav survived the aftermath of the modernisation.

Sher here from Multan...

There is a Walled city around Multan and also i discovered a city within the city too ,i discovered that touring the interior 'the tooth cage' its called and i saw a building that had collapsed. I never found a partner to really archive it.What i noticed from the beams of wood that were showing were irregularly balanced designs that i noticed in the collection of Emperor Hiro Hito's modren Imperial Palace at Tokyo.
I also noticed on my next visit the Thai flags Red and Blue paint splattered to syndicate the artifacts perhaps reminding of the city when it was the throne to the world over 25000 years ago..
The Walled city whichs main KhanGarh gate was felled the year in mid 1800 as The Saddozai World Rule was disengaged and the city was pillaged by merceneries .Raising that back brings out a / at Rome , with stairways and Fountains....But the actual great wall around the city is still there. There are thousands of Architectural amazements like archs and stairways in it ...And around it is temporary settlers a construction of victims from mutiny and partition and extra population that is still in neglect ...
I feel once the small population settlement takes place a great oval drive comes out from inside and beautifull nugget placement of perhaps one the largest walled city becomes au visible.
On improvement i like to really model development or improvement like you say to Lisbon ..where the thin streats and each building has been individually facelifted ....

Intrigued by Sher Saddozai's last post and its reference to the Emperor's collection. Do you have further info/insight on the commonalities in the Emperor's collection in Tokyo and what you discovered in Multan? Much appreciate your efforts and any further contribution on this topic.

The commonility is basically that the design has no definition or direction except that it has form and harmony... This way you are discussing the origin of design, infact you must know that Multan/Kandahar ,Thailand ,Japan have exhisting Imperial Families like Eldest Living ,Longest Reigning,Oldest Ruling, and this explains that human men/women form of life on planet isnt more than 20/29 thousand years,...

The old imperial city of Forbidden City once house the empresses and emporers of China, is now a tourist spot... does conservation projects always ended up being this? Built in 1406-1420 of magnificent chinese Palatial architecture which influenced cultural and architectural developments elsewhere. This walled city was built merely to serve and protect the emporer during the Mongol Yuan Dynasty to Ming dynasty. Amazing construction which involve the of whole logs of precious Phoebe zhennan wood (Chinese: 楠木; pinyin: nnm) found in the jungles of south-western China, and large blocks of marble from quarries near Beijing. The floors of major halls were paved with "golden bricks" (Chinese: 金砖; pinyin: jīnzhuān), specially baked paving bricks from Suzhou.
