Thesis: Conversion of industrial arch.
Hello everyone,

I have found this site just today and I was overwhelmed by the number of interesting subjects and even more interesting and instructing answers or suggestions.

I like the philosophical approach most advisors give, and I would like to take advantage of this trend in your advice.

I am starting to work on my Diploma Thesis, that is, the conversion of a former tobacco factory for the purposes of a University Library in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.

At the moment I am searching for different examples of reconversions of tobacco or other factories/storehouses from around the world. Later I will concentrate on designing and re-converting the factory itself.

I will be very grateful for any comments or examples you can give me on this topic, as they will extent my understanding of this topic.

Thanks
Zuzana Jankovich

Zuzana,

There was a very interesting conversion of a tobacco warehouse in the London Docklands area. :)))

Dear Zuzana,

The main building of Kadir Has University in Istanbul was converted in 1999-2000 from the famous Cibali tobacco factory, built in 1884.

The website of the university is: www.khas.edu.tr/eng/. Here's their page with the history of the site and the university: www.khas.edu.tr/eng/contents.php?cid=133
