Are glass facades appropriate for Bangalore climate?
I am staying in one of the fastest growing cities in India, and perhaps one of the fastest growing cities in the world. It only makes me feel worse seeing a large new glass structure in the city everyday, which by no means is a suitable solution or a response to Bangalore's pleasant climate. It's only resulting in increased energy consumption (HVAC) and enclosed congested spaces where a more open building could be more appropriate.

What could be the possible solutions?

Nitin, The only way to stop "All Glass" buildings is to make those responsible, the city planners, the architects and developers, live in them and pay all the power and maintenance costs.

Another and more practical way would be for the City Authority to automatically have open design competitions whenever there is any application to build one of these mammoth energy wasters.

And so energy-sustainable alternatives which work with (and not against)the climate can be proposed and built. :)
