Outsourcing is a political control mechanism by which governments earn revenue. Outsourcing of architecture can play a very positive role for the profession, as well as for society, by establishing global perspective of qualitative design.

Personally, I do not think outsourcing does any good to the society or the profession. It results only in mindless drafting. I am saying this from professional and personal experience.

I think outsourcing is good if you view it from a economical point of view. It is naturally good for the person who is outsourcing. It is more complex for the people at the receiving end.

Maybe drafting work should be seen as a different type of office as compared to a design office. Personally, I think it is not a fruitful venture for an architect to accept drafting work, unless it is seen as purely business and not architecture. From the point of view of a draftsperson, it makes sense to get outsourced work as it pays more. Of course, in all of this I am assuming that only the drafting work is getting outsourced and not the design.

To Arpita, would you like to elaborate on "mindless drafting"?
