Ras Al-Jinz Visitor Centre
Şūr, Oman
The centre serves as a barrier between two hills, preventing tourists from bringing camping and party equipment to the beach and disturbing the nesting rituals of endangered grey sea turtles. Built of reinforced concrete, it is partially clad in natural stone, with some exterior walls painted brown to blend with the surroundings. Inside are exhibition and information rooms, a restaurant, administration and operational rooms, and overnight facilities for guests wishing to experience the egg laying and hatching spectacle in the company of a guide. The architectural language of the side facing the sea echoes the animated coastal shapes, and avoids night-time light emissions which could disorient the turtles.
