Ipera 25 Housing
Istanbul, Türkiye
This project represents a new approach to building in Istanbul’s historic Galata district, seeking neither to replicate the past nor to compete visually with its neighbours. Its inner structural glass front and rear facades and roof are covered by an innovative wooden veil. Acting as a sun filter, it is composed of parallel horizontal laths that angle at various points, and is divided into four vertical sections, the middle two expanding towards the street to create a bay window effect. All nine flats have both east and west outlooks, and the temperature difference between the opposite facades at various times of day provides natural horizontal air conditioning.
