Ay Phodios Guest House
Trikomo, Cyprus

Designed as part of an eco-tourism project, this cluster of 4 bungalows, restaurant and soap workshop are the first adobe buildings constructed in North Cyprus in 50 years. Nestled in the foothills of the Five Fingers Mountains, the guest house consists of simple, one storey buildings arranged around a central garden. In order to meet building codes a reinforced concrete structural system is employed in each building for its seismic properties, while the walls are either of adobe or alker (gypsum-stabilised mud) bricks. The adobe bricks are made of local soil, which has a sufficient proportion of clay, while the alker technology reduces the clay content and adds gypsum and lime for faster production.
