Alila Cha-Am Hotel
Bang Kao, Thailand
This hotel, with 72 rooms and 7 pools, promises ultimate escape. Its concept is essentially about nature, and its appreciation. The project is laid out in a linear approach. It begins with a geometrically landscaped courtyard and finishes at a seemingly never-ending stretch of a reflective pool. A beach-front restaurant marks the end. Privacy is also key to the design - most functions of the building are concealed from the approach, only the lobby and the reflecting pool are revealed. The reflecting pool is also used as a skylight providing natural light for the spa rooms underneath.
