Congress and Exhibition Centre
Icel, Türkiye
Part of a wider regeneration plan, the centre aims to integrate Mersin with its shore by creating an urban focal point with water as its theme. To maintain a human scale and preserve views of the sea, the center’s functions are broken up into four masses - for conferences, exhibitions, social functions and eating - that float on an artificial lake and are accessed by bridges from city and shore. A perforated metal roof connects the structures, shading outdoor courtyards and verandahs. Glass facades allow outdoor and indoor spaces to flow into each other visually as well as physically to emphasise a sense of continuous pedestrian movement.
