Water Wall in Strasbourg
Strasbourg, France
In 2004 a new park was opened between Strasbourg and Kehl connecting the French and German shores of the river Rhine. The park is meant to symbolise the coalescence of Europe and the European Union. A major part of the park is a 'water wall' - a sort of new city wall - made of concrete and granite. It measures 250m long, 4.5m at its highest point, and has a 6mm water film which flows down it. The project was conceived through cross-border civic participation, and the resulting water wall strives to strengthen the energy between the surrounding industrial landscape and the natural landscape.
