Taqi al-Din Residence
Baaqline, Lebanon
This project has seen a series of dilapidated buildings belonging to the Takieddine family restored as a memorial to the family heritage. The buildings date from various periods, and the project respects their organic evolution as an interesting, if irrational, assemblage of architectural treatments. A new extension provides living accommodation, its diverse cellular units referring to the older buildings and incorporating a similar element of surprise. The yellow of its limestone walls, however, denotes the extension’s difference. A newly designed piazza to the north-east provides space for public performances, and the project has served to prevent a new road being built through the site.
