Reconstruction of Government School
Kailgiran, Pakistan
In the aftermath of the 2005 earthquake that resulted in the destruction of the Bheri girls' school, and the death of 43 students, Emergency Architects extended their stay in Pakistan to rebuild a seismically-sound girls’ school for 240 students. The project was undertaken with a sensitivity to local materials and technologies, and as a collaborative effort that would result in cross-training and a transfer of technologies. Beyond the transfer of knowhow, and the planting of 2000 trees, the end result is a series of earthquake resistant structures built by locals to house the functions of the school.
