Ali Bennis Villa Restoration
Casablanca, Morocco
This project consists of the remodeling of a 1980s villa, built during what was known as the 'Years of Lead'. During that period, an official architecture was promulgated, and was adopted in the design of this particular villa. In the renovation, the architect sought to free the building from the confines of the conventions of the imposed Arab-Andalousian architecture - a pastiche of arcades, cupolas and artisanal touches - and concentrate on the architecture of the new Morocco: luminosity and a new-found liberty.
