Meybod Conservation
Meybod, Iran
The Meybod project is a wide-ranging experiment that is attempting to define creative new methods for engaging as many people as possible in the conservation process - not just academic experts and craftsmen, but local people too. Its general activities fall into three main categories: documentation, restoration and education. Following extensive research, a programme of restoration has begun, focusing initially on the 'hussainiyah' and the covered passageways of the city centre. Awareness of Meybod's cultural importance has been raised through publications, exhibitions and school visits, and a new generation of craftsmen is being trained in the techniques of adobe construction.
