Coronation Road West House
Singapore, Singapore
This house is distinguished by a strong duality between public and private facades. The former is characterised by concrete and stone walls, the latter is extensively glazed, allowing the living spaces to have maximum interface with the natural environment (a motorised timber screen provides shade when necessary). The house comprises two boxes, connected by a concrete wall. The external envelope of the main house is expressed as 'a composition of planes which overlap and intersect at strategic points', while the smaller box is a lightweight structure in steel and glass, wrapped by horizontal timber louvres.
