Ranjbar House
Tehrān, Iran
The vertical typology of this house is a response to the narrowness of the site, a 7 metre by 30 metre plot. To comply with local building regulations, accommodation is arranged over six levels: basement, four floors and roof, with the spaces becoming increasingly private as you move up the house. The structure is of reinforced concrete infilled with brick and stone (Gandomak marble). Depending on whether the roller shutters are up or down, the volume of the house appears either light and inviting, or fully closed and solid.
