Bagher Shahr Metro Station
Tehrān, Iran
The metro station is on the outskirts of the city, in a bleak industrial terrain where the most prominent landmark is an oil refinery. The building responds directly to this context through its steel structure and its 'industrial' detailing - its riveted stone tiles, metal handrails, exposed stairs and liberal use of yellow and grey. At the same time, through its careful construction and green landscaping, it attempts to act as a catalyst for change in an impoverished neighbourhood. The steel structure wraps over an earlier station building that was never completed.
