Bweyogerere Mosque
Kampala, Uganda
A privately-financed project intended for the local community. The building's design is simple and its lack of ornate features sets it apart from many contemporary mosques. The structure was conceived as both a religious and an educational space, offering worshippers a large range of publications and literature, as well as lectures on Islam and Arabic lessons. The recesses in the walls are used as bookshelves on the top, and shoe racks on the bottom. Principal building materials include reinforced concrete, steel trusses and timber for the roof, and plaster.
