Nature Education and Research Centre
Johor Baharu, Malaysia
Located in the Endau-Rompin National Park, this small educational facility comprises a cluster of timber shelter housing dormitories, an activity hall, a dining pavilion and a service kitchen-cum-workshop, totaling 3,000 square metres. The building forms are derived from traditional communal long-houses and open-sided pavilions. Timbers and waterproof plywood make up the main structures and no glass is used. Ecologically sound materials and technologies were used including asbestos-free roofing and the use of electric solar power.
