Abu Bakar Al-Siddiq Mosque
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The Masjid Abu Bakar As-Siddiq is located on a triangular site in the residential area of Bangsar, and the project was initiated to meet the religious needs of this growing, modern, suburban community. The main entrance to this site, enclosed by a low wall, is to the south on the Jalan Ara. The mosque occupies the center of the site. To the northeast are houses for the Imam, Bibal and Maquib, as well as a parking area for worshippers; to the southwest is the free standing minaret. Entrance to the triple-height main prayer hall, square in plan, is through an arched canopy and the adjoining external praying areas. This column-free space has large openings all around with carved timber doors. Further to the adjoining prayer areas, additional prayer space is also located on the second floor. Extra services are provided on the ground floor, including a multi-purpose hall, a library, offices, classrooms, kindergarten, mortuary, and ablution areas and toilets for both males and females.
