Students' Summer Practice Program
Various locations, Türkiye
The METU Faculty of Architecture is one of several architectural schools in Turkey which gives importance to architectural theory and practice. As part of its curriculum, students are expected to follow three semesters of summer apprenticeship. The buildings presented for the award were both designed and constructed by second year students between 1958 and 1974, in diverse regions throughout Turkey. The buildings are small in size (1-2 rooms) and simple in their function and include village centres, libraries, museums, kindergartens, schools, etc. In the majority of projects, traditional brick and stone masonry has been used in combination with a timber, tiled roof.
