Established in 1705 when Ḥusayn ibn ʻAlī (Hussein Ben Ali al-Turki, حسين باي الأول) was appointed Bey of Tunis by the Ottomans after the Muradid Dynasty (1613-1702/1022-1114 AH) fell to internecine struggle that began with the death of Murad II in 1675/1086 AH.
