National Museum of Qatar

Doha, Qatar

The new National Museum of Qatar is located near Doha Port in Doha, Qatar. It was designed by Jean Nouvel and his architectural firm, Ateliers Jean Nouvel, to evoke the "desert rose," a form of gypsum or baryte that crystalizes in shapes resembling flowers, a formation commonly found in the Qatari desert.  The museum Includes the recently restored Palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani (also known as the Old Amiri Palace).

The new museum consists of 11 permanent and temporary exhibition galleries, a 213-seat auditorium, conservation labs, offices, 2 cafés and a panoramic restaurant, a public park and parking for 430 automobiles.
