Jami' wa-Turba Muhi al-Din Ibn al-'Arabi
Damascus, Syria
The Muhi al-Din Mausoleum, located in the Salihiyah district, was built in 1516 by Ottoman Sultan Selim I in honor of the Sheikh Muhi al-Din ibn al-Arabi (d. 1240).

The complex includes a takiyya, a mosque and a tomb over the Sheikh's grave. The mosque was built in a traditional manner with the courtyard (sahn) surrounded with peristyle and a harem. The minaret was constructed over the main entrance door of the mosque. The takiyya is located opposite the mosque. Its simple structure consists of a courtyard covered with two domes. The Ottoman architectural style was not used in the building, as Damascus had not yet adapted the new empire's technique.
