Islamic Center Northern Virginia Jami'a Masjid
Fairfax, United States
The Islamic Center Northern Virginia Trust (ICNVT) was founded on December 4, 1981. In the mid-1980s the ICNVT purchased land on Shirley Gate Road in Fairfax, and in 2007 the current Jami'a Masjid was constructed. In plan the masjid consists of two sections: a square building topped with a bulbous white dome, with a long rectangular section joined to its northwestern corner. The sections of the building form a courtyard enclosed on two sides, with double-level covered walkways facing the courtyard. The masjid is two stories with a basement and is nearly 19,000 sq. ft.

Inside, the prayer hall is illuminated by a series of pointed arch windows and a row of clerestory windows. The large mihrab is framed by a band of mother-of-pearl ornament and topped by a mother-of-pearl inscription panel. There is a screenrf balcony at the rear of the prayer hall for women. The Center also houses an Islamic Sunday school and the Noorani Learning Center.
