"Gorno-Badakhsahn Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) – is an isolated high-mountain region of Tajikistan. Numerous peaks and glaciers of the Pamir mountains deliver their water thereby, making possible prosperous agricultural production. Agriculture in the Pamirs is tightly dependent on water availability; therefore, rural population is mainly settled in the coastlines of the rivers or close to other water sources. Deep valleys of the Pamirs have long history of irrigation, agriculture practice that goes far to the Zoroastrian period...The aim of the research is to identify key figures of water distribution and their responsibilities within different timeframes, and determine lessons learned from each period. The research tries to have in depth look into the agriculture system in general and irrigation in particular. In conclusion a short summary and recommendations would be offered."
