This memorandum considers the importance of the role of research in rural housing construction and its relation to the general social situation of rural areas in Arab countries. Fathy outlines the steps for completing the second five year plan for ensuring growth and reform within the farming industry covering nearly two million acres of proposed land. He also enumerates and lists several factors and options to be considered when designing and planning a house for a farmer, particularly using the rural population of the village of Mithak as a case study. Furthermore, he discusses the economical difficulties in completing the five year plan and solutions for them through scientific research.
