Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center
Queens, United States
The Imam Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation, a charitable and religious organization, was established in 1989. The foundation operates branches around the world and operates numerous schools, colleges and universities, Islamic centers, and community centers around the world. The Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center in New York is located in Jamaica, Queens, along the Van Wyck Expressway in a 45,000 sq. ft. previously-industrial building built in 1947 and purchased by the foundation in 1992. It is a long, rectangular two-story building with a curved entrance facade at southwestern corner. The exterior is tan brick with windows set into bands of glass blocks. A blue dome sits above the entrance, and a thin minaret rises above the street facade.

The main floor of the Center includes the main prayer hall, offices, the library, ladies restrooms, and a conference room. There is a small prayer hall, men's restrooms, and a dining room in the basement, and a large hall on the second floor. The Center also houses a full time K-12 Islamic school. The qibla wall of the prayer hall is tiled in blue patterned tiles, with the mihrab framed in bands of green tile and calligraphy, and with a wooden minbar.
