Islamic Society of Western Massachusetts
West Springfield, United States
The Islamic Society of Western Massachusetts (ISWM) was founded in 1982, and purchased property in a residential neighborhood at 377 Amostown Road in 1983. The property included a small brick house, which became the first masjid for the community. From 1991-1992 a purpose-built mosque was constructed on the site. It is single-story, rectangular-plan building with a dome and minaret located on one corner of the roof and includes worship, education, and social spaces. In 1997 the mosque was expanded to include a library, classrooms, and a basement community space. A Community Hall was constructed in 2007. Today, the original mosque building sits between these extensions.
